Become a Data Analyst (The FAST Way)

Morning! This is In The Data, the newsletter that gives you useful tips and tricks from a Data Analyst.

You can think of this newsletter like the friend who is never afraid to let you know you have something in your teeth.

Let's get into how YOU (yes, you) can become a data analyst too..

T H E  B I G  T H I N G

You will probably need a 4 year degree. I got one in Applied Statistics.

(Most of you are too, so great start smarties!)

Some other majors that will do:

• Information Technology (think Management Information Systems, etc.)

• Computer Science

• Math or Statistics

O T H E R  T H I N G S

There are 3 other things I would focus on learning as well that helped me get a job. These are things that you will be using ALL the time as an Analyst.

• Learn Excel or Google Sheets first (It is the easiest and can teach you the basics)

• Next, learn a dedicated visualization tool like Tableau or Power BI (If you have access to it)

• Finally, learn a coding language (R or Python, but R is cooler)

B O N U S

If you are really hell-bent on becoming a data analyst ASAP, learn SQL too. You can't go wrong...

I got a job without knowing SQL beforehand, but I use it everyday so this is probably just as important as the rest in the end!
